AMD is Targeting the Ryzen 7 3700X and Radeon RX 5700XT toward Intel Skylake and NVIDIA GTX 10 Series Users

During the Computex and E3 press briefings, AMD compared its new Ryzen 3000 processors to Intel’s 8th and 9th Gen lineup and the Radeon RX 5700 GPUs to the lower-end NVIDIA RTX cards. The newer 7nm chips certainly seem faster than their competitors, but not by much, and no one will throw away their i9 (or RTX 2080) for a Ryzen 9 (or an RX 5700XT). AMD is well aware of that, so it’s enticing Intel and NVIDIA users who skipped the last upgrade cycle with its brand new architectures.

In its official marketing slides, AMD compares the Ryzen 7 3700X & Radeon RX 5700XT duo against an Intel Core i7-6700K & an NVIDIA GTX 1070 combo. As expected, team red’s newer hardware is noticeably faster, with the deltas ranging from 20% to 40%, and a multi-threaded advantage of more than +200%.

This isn’t surprising as it’s the same thing Intel and NVIDIA do while promoting their newer products, however unlike AMD they compare them with their own older lineups and not their competitor’s. This is an interesting strategy from team red, one that is likely to pay off. After all, it’s going to be significantly easier to make someone with previous gen hardware to upgrade over someone who just spent their entire month’s worth of salary on a brand new rig.
