The Asus Mothership is unlike any laptop we’ve seen before

The Asus Rog mothership GZ700 is unlike any other gaming device we’ve set our eyes on before. On the outside, it looks exactly like every other bulky gaming laptop, but appearanescan be deceiving. When you prop it onto a surface, a rear kickstand holds it upright giving it a desktop PC feel.

The keyboard then extends your way, just like the surface pro. But, there’s one key difference: it detaches. It is backlit and has a battery of its own allowing wireless connectivity. The keyboard is foldable and connects via WiFi rather than Bluetooth reducing the latency.

The Asus Mothership laptop is like the Surface Pro with regard to the thermals. This positioning should also keep the fans clean and dust-free. It weighs in at around 4.7kg and is designed for portability although that’s not its best aspect.

Portability

Inside the Asus Mothership, is a mobile core i9-8950HK with Nvidia’s latest Geforce RTX 2080. It includes four slots for up to 32Gb of DDR4 RAM. It packs three M.2 slots running at Gen 3. x4 PCIe. The display is a 144Hz, 17.3-inch G-sync panel with a FHD resolution. For networking, it includes an 802.11ax wireless chip.

The Asus Mothership is so beefed up that it uses two power bricks to run. The laptop is expected to release around April this year.
