Intel 10nm Ice Lake-U Gen11 iGPU Performance Teased; 2x Faster than Gen 9, 10% Faster than Ryzen 7 3700U

Intel is expected to announce its 10nm Ice lake-U chips packing the beefy Gen11 iGPU and the new Sunny Cove architecture this Computex. On the eve of the event, the company has teased the performance of the first graphics processor developed by the Visual Technologies team led by Raja Koduri. The Gen11 integrated graphics are a significant 2x times faster than the Gen9 chips coupled with the Coffee Lake processors.

Unsurprisingly, Intel compared its new 10nm design to AMD’s (12nm) Zen+ Ryzen 3700U mobile chip packing Vega 10 graphics, with an average of +5% higher performance at a relatively lower TDP of 15W (the Ryzen processor draws 25W). Most of these performance gains come from an increased shader count, higher clocks, more cache and support for DX12 related technologies such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS). However, the latter needs to be supported by the developers on an engine level. The rest, well, I suppose we’ll see in the coming days.
