NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q To Be Faster Than the Desktop GTX 1080

The first benchmark figures for NVIDIA’s mobile GPU, the GeForce RTX 2070 (Max-Q) have been leaked, once again courtesy of well-known source, APISAK. These performance figures were uploaded to the online Final Fantasy XV benchmark database.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q

Granted, these GPU scores aren’t very precise since they don’t take into account the rest of the hardware specifications, but they are still a reliable indication of a GPU’s capabilities. As per the leak, the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q will offer performance on par (or higher than) with AMD’s fastest GPU, the Radeon RX Vega 64. This also means that the mobile 2070 will be faster than the Pascal-based GTX 1080 which was the second fastest gaming GPU just a year ago.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q scores 3080 points in the Final Fantasy XV benchmark. In comparison, the Radeon RX Vega 64 yields a score of 2895 points and the GeForce GTX 1080 is just around the corner with 2892.

Looking at the same benchmark, we see that another GPU named the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 is placed slightly higher than the 2070 Max-Q which is probably an overclocked variant. Furthermore, the desktop level RTX 2070 scores 3863 points in the same benchmark. That’s a healthy 25% faster than the Max-Q version, but considering that this is the high-end desktop GPU territory, it’s impressive regardless.

So, if the mobile RTX 2070 is on par with the desktop GTX 1080, then the 2080 Max-Q will probably top the GTX 1080 Ti as well. Lastly, let us not forget that NVIDIA might also launch a mobile version of the RTX 2080 Ti. Looks like laptop gaming is about to get a rather sizeable boost in the near future. We’ll keep you posted if anything else surfaces.
