Radeon RX 590 Gaming released by Gigabyte

The RX 590 was AMD Radeon’s first mainstream GPU after a long time. Released back in November ’18, it uses the new 12 nm process and Polaris-30 architecture. After 13 weeks, Gigabyte has finally released the RX 590 Gaming.

Technical Specifications:

  • Graphics Processor: Polaris-30 XT
  • Cores: 2304
  • Memory Size and Type: 8GB GDDR5
  • Bus Width: 256 bit (PCIe 3.0 x16)
  • Clock Speeds: 1469 MHz(Base) and 1560 MHz(Boost)
  • Memory Clock: 2000 MHz
The RX 590 uses the new Polaris-30 architecture

The new 12 nm process allows the GPU to have access to more high functioning Silicon at higher clock speeds as compared to the 14 nm Polaris chips. This results in a base clock that 205 MHz faster than its predecessors and Gigabyte has pushed it to 296 Mhz faster than the RX 580.

With the arrival of the NVIDIA’s GTX 1660Ti, the RX 590 isn’t worth the money at the exact same price point. Moreover, with the arrival of the new GTX 1660 and 1650, we could be looking at a similar performance at a much lower price point. The RX 590 was a great move by AMD to rival the GTX 1060 but they need to come up with a more appealing GPU to compete with NVIDIA’s offerings. Whether this will be in the form of AMD’s new Navi GPUs remains to be seen.
