Ryzen 3000 Boost Clock Fix Coming with New BIOS Update

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been numerous reports of the Ryzen 3000 Boost Clock underperforming. The latest among these is a recent survey by der8auer showing the vast majority of them not hitting the expected boost clock speeds. This, along with recent reports of the Ryzen 3000 line-up being underclocked for durability didn’t exactly portray AMD in a very favorable light. AMD has since officially recognized the concerns and issued a public statement today.

Ryzen 3000 Boost Clock Fix

AMD found an issue in their firmware that was restricting the Ryzen 3000 CPUs from hitting their advertised boost clock frequencies. With regards to this, AMD is now working on a BIOS update for their motherboard partners to solve the issue and subsequently boost the performance. They are also working on further optimizations for the CPUs. Depending on when AMD is done resolving the issue and the time required by the motherboard manufacturers to release their own respective updates, it can be quite a while before we see the Ryzen 9 3900X hitting 4.6GHz on single-core workloads. However, props to AMD for quickly identifying the issue and working on a solution.

AMD is expected to update the community regarding when the BIOS fix should be available for consumers to download. Stay tuned for future updates.
